This medal takes the ex-Barcelona man’s personal trophy haul to 43, and he was well-deserved of the prize.

Captaining his team to the gold medal at 38 years of age, Dani Alves played an astonishing 480 minutes of football – every minute of the competition – and was a standout player throughout.

Brazil’s coach Andre Jardine was especially pleased with Alves’ abilities.

“He is in impressive physical shape. The maturity he has speaks for itself”, he said. “He is very experienced and is very clear on every decision he makes. He is an example to all Brazilian footballers.”

The last trophy missing from Alves’ cabinet is the World Cup and so he will be looking eagerly towards Qatar 2022 as his last throw of the dice, if he manages to make the squad.
