All-rounder Shivam Dube said he was not able to control his excitement when he got picked by Chennai Super Kings at the Indian Premier League 2022 auction, adding that he always wanted to play under his idol, MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Shivam Dube, 28, who became a father for the first time days ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, had a double treat in February when he got the news of his CSK contract.

CSK in IPL 2022: Team Profile

Dube, at the CSK training sessions in Surat ahead of IPL 2022, has been working with his hero, MS Dhoni closely. Having met him at their camp, Dube said he had goosebumps when he was having a chat with the CSK captain. Having received instructions from his new skipper ahead of the 10-team season, Dube is willing to put in the hard hards and do justice to the trust the 4-time champions have shown in him.

“I think you can still see the goosebumps coming out because always I’m a big fan of Mahi bhai and, especially CSK. I had a chat with Mahi bhai as recently as yesterday. He asked me to do a few things and I told him I’ll definitely get it done. When Mahi bhai asks you to do something, consider it done,” Dube told CSK.

“I was very surprised that I have got a baby boy and become a father. The 2nd big thing, again, after 4 days, I got picked by Chennai. I was dancing a bit in my room, I was really happy. I called my wife and my family. I don’t dance often but because I was happy, I was dancing,” he added.

“It was a big deal for me to get picked by Chennai. I was feeling great. I can’t express my excitement in words but I was pleasantly surprised by having been picked by CSK.”

‘MORE CONFIDENT NOW’

Dube, who played for Rajasthan Royals in the last season, was bought for Rs 4 crore, 8 times more than his base price. The India all-rounder, who made his India debut in 2019, has played an ODI and 13 T20Is but hasn’t been able to be a regular member of the senior national side so far.

However, Dube hopes he can build on his confidence of having picked by CSK and realize his potential in the coming years.

“Although it is a different franchise for me, attitude will remain the same. I have to do my best for the team’s cause, which has always been my mission as a player and will always be that way going forward as well. I’m more confident now,” he said.

Dube, who had a middling season in 2020, showed flashes of brilliance last season, hitting 230 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of close to 30.
